Featured Guests: Sam and Danny, A Getaway Honeymoon

Earlier this year, we hosted Sam and Danny at Getaway Western Catskills outside of New York so they could disconnect to reconnect after their wedding. Here’s what they had to say about their experience.

When most people start to think about where they want to go after their wedding, it usually involves white sand, clear blue water and an all-inclusive. Us? We went outside the norm when we came across Getaway.

A cousin of my now husband shared her experience at Getaway in Western Catskills, NY and we immediately fell in love with the idea of a weekend away, disconnected. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous at the thought of no service, no social media, as this is what we have become accustomed to, but we both agreed, after the stress of wedding planning, this is what we needed. The days leading up to our trip, we planned out all of our meals and researched the area incase we wanted to explore a bit.

We made the two-hour trip from Scranton, Pennsylvania and the ride itself was so beautiful in the Fall time. We arrived on a Sunday and we could have not asked for better weather. Our cabin, was just as beautiful as the photos we saw online. The area is so peaceful and the cabin was so clean and equipped with everything we needed.  After unpacking, we started our fire and prepping for Dinner. It was so helpful that we were provided with all the essentials (wood, fire starters, utensils, oil, etc.)

As newlyweds, we already felt like we were on cloud 9, but to get that one on one attention, bonded us even closer. We cooked our first meal of steaks and potatoes over the fire and it was such a fun experience for us to have together, as neither us of were grilling experts. Needless to say, there is nothing like a meal cooked over an open fire! As night came around, under the beautiful stars we sat around the fire, reminiscing on the wedding, made smores, laughing. I can honestly say I did not have a worry in the world at that moment in time, truly a romantic and magical night.

As the night went on, we made our way into the cabin and this is the part I was worried about as we usually lay in bed and scroll through social media. But we put on the radio, slowed danced to our song, made a pot of coffee and just talked and just enjoyed our time together.

Waking up in the morning was one my favorite parts of the trip. We opened the window blind and the view was to die for! It was so calming and peaceful, as we sat and drank our coffee.

Although it rained our second day into the trip, we made the best out of it! We were still able to cook our meals outside in-between and we even made a short trip to visit some covered bridges that were close by! I highly recommend getting a Bluetooth tripod, as we got beautiful pictures and memories.

Hearing the rain fall on the cabin at night, the dimmed lights and just the two of us in the cozy bed, is a core memory we are thankful to have created at Getaway. We were sad to leave, but excited to begin our future and have never felt closer and connected. I would recommend this experience to any couple. It was a breath of fresh air to not have to constantly worry about our phones and social media. We just lived in the moment and were able to focus on us and our relationship. We are so excited to come back and experience that feeling again!
