Featured Guests: A Mommy-Daughter Getaway

Earlier this year we hosted T’nava Brown and her daughter at Getaway Western Catskills so they could unplug for some quality time together in nature. Here’s what T’nava had to say about their experience.

Choosing Getaway was the perfect way to bring in my 30th and my daughter’s 6th birthday! We took a three-and-a-half-hour drive from South Jersey to Catskills, NY. On our way to Getaway, we sang at the top of our lungs, laughed and appreciated the sights along the way. My daughter had no idea where we were going. She had shared with me a few weeks before that she wanted to make s’mores & I had been eyeing the Getaway House for some time, so this was a win, win in my opinion. I also wanted to spend quality time creating meaningful memories together that we could always look back on. Upon our arrival, I received a welcoming text of details about our stay and even an offer to leave a light on, if we would be arriving after 8 PM – how thoughtful!

Once we entered our cabin, The Madona, expectations were immediately met! My daughter smiled from ear to ear as she looked around, just as I did! The window view by the bed was so beautiful! The cabin was so clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The layout & details of the cabin was so mindfully set up. Making dinner was so easy as all appliances were conveniently placed. The best way to describe the cabin is simply, cozy!

Some of my favorite moments during our stay were: creating vision boards, sitting by the campfire, making s’mores while drinking hot coco & enjoying the beautiful view of the Catskills mountains. I can’t forget the simple cuddles and snuggles as well! Our stay was peaceful, relaxing and also gave me time to set intentions and plan how I wanted to end the year! The cabin was secluded and private but also close enough to feel safe. The staff provided great communication & customer service which also added to that security.

Some advice I would give to a family considering a getaway would be to notify others that you will be off grid & will not be available to contact during your stay. Go with intentions to disconnect & unplug from daily life & connect with your loved ones with no distractions! It felt great to connect & spend intentional time with my daughter. Being able to enjoy a new experience with her was priceless. She still talks about our Getaway weeks later! I would recommend this to anyone and I cannot wait to go back and visit other getaway locations as well! Getaway will definitely be a part of my self-care routine throughout the year!
