Featured Guests: Melanie and Matt

Earlier this year, we hosted Melanie and her partner, Matt, at Getaway Big Bear outside of LA so they could disconnect from technology and reconnect to nature. Here’s what Melanie had to say about their experience.

I’ve always felt very connected to nature. Growing up in Northern California, my family and I spent lots of time hiking outdoors and visiting National Parks. For me, spending time outdoors is one of my favorite forms of self-care. The fresh air and tranquility provide the perfect recipe for restoration. Nature is healing!

This was my second time at a Getaway house with my boyfriend Matt. I had surprised him on his birthday last year with a stay and we loved our experience. This year’s revisit was in celebration of our one year anniversary. No better way to commemorate the special occasion than carving out some quality time together.

The design of the Getaway experience makes disconnecting easy. Our stay at the Los Angeles outpost, located in the serene San Bernardino mountains, provides a wonderful nature escape. As we learned from our first stay, everything we needed was right in front of us. Our sole priority was each other and Getaway helps remove all unnecessary distractions.

Free time for us on this trip included going on a little “photo walk” with our film cameras on the walking trails. Analog photography is one of our shared passions and a switch up in our scenery gave us fresh inspiration and gorgeous landscapes to photograph. My dad had also lent me a pair of binoculars and it was beautiful to see faraway birds up close and to appreciate all the intricate details of the trees and mountains surrounding us.

That evening we roasted s’mores (MY FAVORITE) over our fire pit and watched the sunset transform the sky the most beautiful shades of pink and orange. As it got darker, we settled into our Getaway for the night. We wound down by turning on some jazz music, sharing a bottle of wine and cooking a delicious dinner together. We relished in the simple pleasure of just being in each other’s company.

I always appreciate and take any chance I can to escape the hustle bustle of city life in Los Angeles. Prioritizing time for myself and for loved ones is what feeds my soul most. Like our first stay, we left feeling refreshed and even more connected to one another.

I’d recommend Getaway to anyone seeking a pause from their usual day to day and a desire for reconnection to themselves and nature. It’s a place I know I’ll return to time and time again when I need that for myself.

Getaway is the perfect escape.
