Campfire Cooking: Bacon Grilled Cheese

In honor of National Grilled Cheese Day, we tapped creator, Dana Coughlin for an interesting twist on the classic grilled cheese. She headed out to Getaway Machimoodus to craft this delicious Bacon Grilled Cheese while she reconnected to nature. Read on for her recipe.


  • 2 slices of sourdough 
  • Butter for the bread & pan
  • 2 slices of turkey bacon 
  • Cheddar cheese 

What makes the perfect comfort food?

In my opinion comfort food HAS to be warm! Any food that is warm and savory is top of my list for comfort food. Bonus points if it reminds you of home. 

How will you be slowing down this Spring and making the most of this season?

One way I am slowing down this spring is leaving my computer at work. It’s much easier to balance work and life if you leave work at work (which of course is much easier said than done)! One way I am making the most of this season is spending time outside. Walking, biking, reading or listening to a podcast outside really turns my mood around and makes me feel so zen. 

How did you recharge on your escape to nature?

One way I recharged on my escape to nature was sitting by the fire and enjoying the sun with friends. The weather was beautiful so I made sure to take full advantage of all the outdoor amenities.
