Pack for a Summer Getaway with Planet with Sara

Summer is finally upon us and for most Minnesotans that means enjoying as many activities as possible in three short months.  While incredibly fun, it can also be stressful being so go-go-go and a break to recharge becomes critical.

The solution? A retreat to a Getaway cabin!  At just under two hours from Minneapolis, and many major metropolitan areas across the US, Getaway cabins are the perfect place to escape into nature for a couple days to rejuvenate.  With giant windows overlooking beautiful trees, cabins full of natural light and outdoor amenities such as a picnic table and fire pit, Getaway makes connecting with nature as easy as possible.

The cabins are equipped with many essentials making packing easier.  That being said, below are 7 things you should add to your summer cabin getaway packing list:

  1. Hiking Boots: with Getaway Cabins in the middle of a beautiful forest, hiking boots are a must have! Whether you’re walking around trails on the property or venturing to nearby Banning State Park (high recommend!), hiking boots will make your treks more comfortable. I’d also recommend hiking at Jay Cooke State Park which is a 40 minute drive from the cabins.  The swinging bridge at Jay Cooke is an iconic spot to start your hike!
  2. Toiletries: don’t forget your essentials like: a sun hat, pajamas, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, skin care, sun screen and medicine. Shampoo, condition, body wash, towels and bedding are all included!
  3. Hiking and Lounging Clothes: bring comfortable hiking clothes for exploring the trails and lounge clothes for enjoying a campfire or reading a book a in bed.  Moisture wicking clothes are great for hot days and long sleeves and leggings are great for cool nights.
  4. Bug Spray: bugs have been particularly intense this year in Minnesota, including ticks, so make sure to pack some protection.  Long sleeves, long pants and socks are all great items to pack to protect your skin as well.  Don’t forget to check yourself for ticks before going back inside your cabin!
  5. Meal Ingredients: if you plan to cook, bring food items with you. For example, eggs, yogurt and pancake mix for breakfast, pasta noodles, fish, meat, vegetables, berries and snacks.  You can also pack drinks, as there is a mini fridge at the cabin to store food and beverages.  Cabins are equipped with a two-burner stove, sink, drinking water, pots, pans, salt, pepper and olive oil.  You can also pre-order s’mores ingredients to be ready in your cabin upon arrival!
  6. Books and Games: One of the best parts of staying at Getaway cabins is disconnecting.  There’s even a phone box so your phone can be physically out of sight! Without a constant Wi-Fi connection, you might want to curl up with a book, work on a puzzle or play a board game.
  7. Fairy Lights: while of course these aren’t necessary, they are really fun and add to the overall ambiance of the cabin.  You can put them up inside the cabin or enjoy them outdoors as you sit around a bonfire.

Getaway Cabins offer the best retreat.  You don’t need to overpack as so much is provided so you can simply enjoy a break in nature.
