Campfire Cooking: Campfire Orange Chocolate Cake

Earlier this year we hosted Garianne Gagliardi of Garianne’s Table at Getaway Western Catskills outside of New York, for her to take some time to reconnect to nature and experiment with some new campfire recipes. Here is her recipe for Campfire Orange Chocolate Cake.

Ingredients

  • Oranges, halved and scooped
  • Chocolate Cake Mix
  • Mini Chocolate Chips

Instructions

Slice oranges, scoop out the middle and save as a side, and fill each orange shell with the chocolate cake mix. Follow the instructions on the back of the cake box for batter.

To make filling the oranges easier, I use a ziplock bag to pipe it in! Make sure to only fill half way—or it’ll overflow (lesson learned).

Top with mini chocolate chips, cover tightly with aluminum foil and pop over the campfire until cake is fully cooked through. About 15-20 minutes!

Pro tip: leave some pulp in the shell for an extra punch of orange.

Enjoy!
