Taking the Scenic Route to Getaway Mount Adams

Change your journey to Getaway from a commute into a fun road trip. Whether you’re looking for exciting hikes, delicious food, or something to sip, we’ve found some great stops for you to enjoy along the way. 

Attractions Along the Way

Multnomah Falls

~ 1.5 hours from Outpost

If you want to get outside as soon as you leave the city, then stop by this popular 611-foot waterfall for some beautiful views and fresh air. 

Rooster Rock State Park

~ 1.5 hours from Outpost

Just 30 minutes away from Portland, this park is the perfect place to stop for a quick lunch on your drive. It offers three miles of river access, along with ample picnic areas, swimming areas, and even two disc golf courses. 

Guler Ice Caves

~ 40 minutes from Outpost

This frequently visited cave features beautiful underground ice formations and tubes that are lava flows. Remember to bring along snow gear in the winter months, as cave temperatures can drop pretty low. 

Steelhead Alpaca Ranch 

~ 30 minutes from Outpost

Stop by this lovely ranch to spend some time with our animal friends. You can visit a variety of creatures- from alpacas to duck, geese, chickens, cats, and a dog. 

Zoller’s Outdoor Odyssey

~ 25 minutes from Outpost

As the longest running whitewater enterprise in Washington or Oregon, Zoller’s is the local go-to for the adventurous type. Check out one of their several options for a whitewater adventure. 

Walks in the Mountains

Latourell Falls Loop Hike

Hike Duration: 2.4 miles

Difficulty: Easy

For a quick stop right when you’re leaving Portland, check out this quick loop with views of a single-plunge waterfall of 224 feet. Best yet, it’s a waterfall near the city without the crowds of Multnomah Falls. 

Lost Lake

Hike Duration: 3.2 miles

Difficulty: Easy

Take a little detour near the halfway point of your drive. The scenic loop around Lost Lake is a great pick for families, with nearly all level trails and plenty of stunning views of the lake and Mount Hood.

Dog Creek Falls

Hike Duration: 0.6 miles

Difficulty: Easy

Many people pass by this quick and easy walk without even noticing it. Stop by on your way to the Outpost and see a 25-foot cascading waterfall. 

Klickitat Canyon Hike

Hike Duration: 6.8 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

The viewpoint on this in-and-out hike features views along the largest undammed river in the state of Washington. Look out for butterflies on your way to this scenic viewpoint.

Huntington’s Bar & Grill

~ 50 minutes from the Outpost

This dive bar and restaurant claims to have the best steak in the area. See for yourself and try out the rib eye or the filet mignon. 

The Logs Inn Restaurant

~ 40 minutes from the Outpost

This spot offers delicious burgers, fries, milkshakes and more. We recommend their famous fried chicken and jojo’s. 

Glenwood Station

~ 5 minutes from Outpost

This restaurant also serves as a gas station, motel, and convenience store. Stop by for a quick fix of burgers or sandwiches or pick up some ingredients for your cabin.
