Guest Story: Nikeisy’s Escape

This summer, we hosted Nikeisy at Getaway Nashville Campgrounds so she could disconnect from the noise and reconnect to nature. Here’s what she had to say about her experience.

People talk about having a favorite place, home-away-from-home or secret hideout that makes them feel safe almost on a daily basis. This place is perhaps their local park, corner coffee shop or even their favorite aunt’s house. Personally, I never thought that I needed a personal hideout as much as I did after I decided to book a couple of nights at Getaway Catskills and this was simply one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my entire life.

What made me stay at this Getaway location was that after working 6 days a week, attending school and dealing with all sorts of stuff, I just felt that enough was enough and that I needed to give me, myself and I a well deserved rest. I knew I didn’t want to go through the hassle of going to an airport, getting on an airplane, etc. so after doing some research and looking for places to go that were at least a couple of hours drive away from home, I stumbled upon the Getaway website. I was captivated by the beautiful simplicity of their houses and camping sites. After reading some of the other guest’s stories and looking at photos of their stay I decided that I wanted to give it a try.

Upon arrival, I felt like I was rejuvenated and immersed in profound peace. Everything was already set for us. The kitchen, the tent, the fire pit… everything!! The sight was spectacular with all the large trees surrounding us. The place was neat and well organized and they provided everything that we needed such as disposable plates, cups, eating utensils, etc . I couldn’t help but think how lucky I was to be able to be there at that exact moment; it’s the little things in life that matter. This is simply an experience almost impossible to describe with words but that I totally recommend everyone experiencing at least once in their lifetime.

Nighttime came and as I sat down by the fire pit sipping a hot cup of coffee and looking at all the stars up in the sky, I reflected on how good it felt finally being able to disconnect from my daily routine. I knew that pretty soon I would have to go back to it eventually but at that moment nothing really mattered; I was just a girl living her best life and loving every second of it!

Just the process of making and eating dinner outdoors somehow felt magical and more enjoyable. All the little conversations with my husband always ended with laughter and they all became memorable. I never realized how much we needed this, not just for us as a couple but as individuals who needed to reconnect with their significant other away from home, family, and friends. After eating some delicious s’mores and telling some stories it was time for us to hit the sack. All I can say is that I don’t recall the last time that I slept so well.

Finally, morning came and it was already time for us to go. We woke up early, made some coffee and cooked breakfast. We both went for a short walk around the site to admire nature one last time and after packing everything in the car and getting ready to leave I just stood there for a moment, looked around and thought to myself “I finally found a personal hideout I can call my own!”
